CNAS SCHOLARS PAID PEER MENTOR OPPORTUNITY

Did you get a lot out of being in a CNAS Scholars Learning Community as a freshman? Do you enjoy your NASC093 class or have ideas on how to improve it for freshman in the years to come? Do you want to mentor incoming freshman who will be joining learning communities on tips and tricks of navigating through CNAS you wish you had been told early on?

Keep reading to find out more about the opportunity, the pay and the mandatory workshop times!

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you should consider becoming a CNAS Scholars Peer Mentor! As a peer mentor, you will be responsible for mentoring about two dozen freshman in learning communities like the ones you are/were in!

You will be able to transfer valuable insight to them especially in the realms of being pre-med,being involved in research, pursuing a career in STEM education and more! In addition to mentoring where you develop interpersonal skills, you will be able to develop your teamwork skills by working with a group of other peer mentors on projects such as creating videos for the CNAS website.

Did I forget to message that you will be paid $15.99 an hour?

This is an open call to apply as a CNAS Scholars or CNAS PERSIST Peer Mentor for the 2019-2020 academic year. Training will begin spring quarter and the official Peer Mentor position would begin in September 2019. Please see cnasscholars.ucr.edu for information about the CNAS Scholars and CNAS PERSIST Peer Mentor programs. Applications and resumes are due by Friday, Mar. 1 at 4pm. Workshop attendance at a PM Information Session is required, in order to apply for a position. If you can’t attend a workshop, meet with Jenn or Jaron during drop in hours (see myadvising.ucr.edu). First-Generation Resources

Highlanders, welcome back to the CNAS Scholars blog ! I hope midterm session has treated everyone well. In this week's edition of the blog, we will be discussing a very important series of programs known as First-Gen Initiatives and what resources are available to any undergraduate students interested.  The term "first-gen" describes a student who is first in their family to study in a four-year institution. Just by the name alone, the main goal of the First-Gen initiatives is to ensure first-generation students are able to engage and stay motivated in their journey towards student success. This includes different individualized programs, specialized campus support, and available student opportunities.
