CALTEACH - SCIENCE & MATH INITIATIVE (SMI)

If you are considering pursuing a STEM-focused teaching profession in K-12 education, being involved with the Science & Math Initiative (SMI) program is an opportunity to further explore your professional interest!

With a mission to increase the number of highly qualified teachers in mathematics and science in California schools, SMI offers a wide range of resources and support to help aspiring teachers and educators to be well-prepared by the time they start their practice. Through the Peer Mentor Program and Pre-Teaching Career Advising services, you are able to gain insights into the teaching profession and learn about the different resources, as well as scholarship opportunities that could further academically and financially support your endeavors towards becoming a teacher and educator.

Among the many services SMI provides is the test preparation for the different examinations students need to complete as part of the requirements on obtaining teaching credentials. In addition to different text material you could check out in the facility, the program also provides resources to different online supplemental resources that could assist in the studying and preparation process. Along with that, through the different program pathways SMI provides to enrich students' journeys, the UC systemwide program also offers different professional development opportunities and events that will allow you to expand your network and strengthen your skills.

For more information about SMI and the different services and opportunities that the program provides, visit https://smi.ucr.edu/ or stop by their office located in 1315 Pierce Hall.
