Welcome to Spring Quarter of 2020! It is no doubt that we are living through difficult yet historical times. While the COVID-19 virus has affected our lives in many ways, we still have an obligation to try to be on top of our academics. Along with other college campuses, UCR has transitioned primarily to a remote working a learning environment for the Spring quarter. Though this is an unprecedented challenge for students, staff, and faculty of the university, the past few weeks have demonstrated the strength of our campus community's resiliency. As all of us are navigating through the transition of in-person instruction to remote learning, UCR has 3 tips for students to be more prepared for the potential challenges of this quarter:
- Check your iLearn courses daily
- Keep in mind that instructors are also new to remote instruction and that they may make revisions to their lesson plans and how the class operates as the quarter progresses to provide you the best learning environment. It is important to uphold strong and professional communication in times like these.
- Stay informed and reach out for help when you need support
- Realize that your learning experience and well-being as a student remains a priority for UCR. As many organizations and departments on campus have transitioned online, stay informed of the changes in service and hours of operations so that you are able to still reach out for assistance and receive the resources you need to succeed.
- Remain flexible
- The situation of this pandemic will continue to be closely monitored and be aware that adjustments may be made as information becomes available. Keeping an open mind for the different possibilities and remaining flexible with the changes during this time is essential to your learning experience.
If you have been dependent on any on-campus electronic resources (such as borrowing a laptop) to complete coursework, then you can still continue using those resources through UCR Loan2Learn (L2L) Program. You can access off-campus learning devices by submitting an application here.
Studying for online classes may provide more flexibility to your schedule compared to normal in-classroom instruction. However, it is important to proactively manage your time and stay motivated if you would like to perform well academically. If your goal is to do well in your classes, procrastination is your worst enemy. If you would like more study tips in regard to online learning, please visit here.
