Hello everyone! Welcome to Week 9. This blog post will discuss the Student Disability Resource Center (SDRC), an office on-campus dedicated to providing free and equal accessibility needs to those temporarily and permanently disabled. For over 50 years, the office has strived to not only help those lacking the fundamental abilities of average students but to empower them and promote their stories, impacts, and abilities.
If you believe that the accommodations that the SDRC provides may aid your experience at UCR, this blog may be for you. The SDRC is available for students needing extra assistance and provides accommodations such as extra time on exams for those with mental disabilities and transportation between classes for those with physical disabilities affecting their mobility. To obtain this free aid, a student must have an interactive, case-by-case meeting with an SDRC representative to be evaluated on SDRC needs. Paperwork/evidence is required to obtain these resources. To register for this meeting, click here.
In addition to the accommodations, the resources at the SDRC are endless. The SDRC provides contact information and referrals to certain offices that may help your learning and health needs, on and off-campus. For example, for those with chronic conditions/disabilities, the SDRC has included the contact information of a few emergency planning organizations like: American Red Cross, Ready . gov, and UCR Emergency Management. For those wanting to get access to the SDRC through the lens of an experienced UCR student, the SDRC Peer Program may also be useful. The SDRC Peers provide information about accessibility and resources to those at an undergraduate level, guidance to accommodation access for students, and goal setting for mentees. These third and fourth years have used the SDRC before, and are willing to share their knowledge. Reach out to the SDRC's email (sdrc@ucr.edu) to ask about the SDRC Peer Mentor availability.
Thank you Highlanders for reading this edition of the blog. Catch you all in 2 weeks!
